Elementary Summer Reading

Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Students entering Grades 1 & 2 will be given a paper test on their books during the first full week back at school. This will be applied to their first reading grade.
1st Grade  
  • Biscuit by Alyssa Satin Capucilli 
  • Pete the Cat and the Surprise Teacher by James Dean
2nd Grade
  • Henry and Mudge and the Careful Cousin by Cynthia Rylant Joe
  • Sparky Go to School by Jamie Michalak
Students entering 3rd , 4th & 5th grade must obtain the required Accelerated Reader (AR) points listed below by reading fiction chapter books of their choice. This will be applied to their first reading grade.
  • 3rd Grade - 3 AR points/2.5 or higher AR reading level
  • 4 th Grade - 5 AR points/3.5 or higher AR reading level
  • 5 th Grade - 6 AR points/4.0 or higher AR reading level
Students in Grades 3rd-5th have the following testing options.
  • Optional, early AR testing is available in the Elementary Library from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm on July 15th & July 29th.   
  • AR testing upon returning to school must be completed by Friday, August 14th. 
PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE SUMMER READING TESTS ON ANY BOOKS THAT THEY HAVE PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TESTS ON, OR ON CLASS NOVELS THAT THEY HAVE READ IN CLASS DURING THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR.

Middle School Summer Reading

Grades 6, 7, 8
Middle School students must obtain the required Accelerated Reader (AR) points listed below.
Suggested 150+ pages with 4.5+ reading level, but student interest is most important.
  • 6th Grade - 10 AR Points
  • 7th Grade - 12 AR Points
  • 8th Grade - 15 AR Points
 
Students in Grades 6th-8th have the following testing options.
  • Optional, early AR testing is available 8:00 am - 12:00 pm on July 15th & July 29th. Please report to Room 503 (Mrs. Kinchen) for access to the Middle School Computer Lab. 
  • AR testing upon returning to school must be completed by Friday, August 14th.
