In March, members of the Teen Library Council attended the Louisiana Teen-age Librarian Association (LTLA) convention in Alexandria, LA. During the student-led convention, teens enjoyed book discussions, contests, a talent show, a political rally, a dance, and a luncheon featuring author Paula Morris.
While at convention TLC successfully chaired two convention committees. Emily Bernard represented CPS as chairman of the convention's Bulletin Board, Sr. contest, and Maggie Bryson served as chairman of the Bookmark, Sr. contest.
One of the convention's highlights is a non-competitive talent show. Maggie Bryson, Natalie Foster, Claire Goynes, and Brielle Rica earned spirit points for TLC by performing a cheer-styled dance in the talent show.
TLC also placed in several junior division contests. The entire club won 1st place in the group dance contest. Emily Bernard, Amber Dougherty, and Kacie Nijoka won 2nd place in the group costume contest. Amber Dougherty, Natalie Foster, and Claire Goynes placed 3rd in the poster contest. Maggie Bryon, Natalie Foster, and Claire Goynes were awarded 3rd place in the bulletin board contest.
After participating in the political rally and election, Natalie Foster won the distinct honor of serving as the state historian for LTLA. She will serve on the LTLA's executive committee and will be responsible for creating LTLA's official scrapbook. Once created, the scrapbook will be displayed during next year's LTLA convention and will be featured at the 2013 Louisiana Library Association (LLA) convention.
